How A Street Cat Helped Create The StomaDome Stoma Guard

In the spring of 2013, I underwent a series of routine medical tests. My Urologist informed me that I had stage three bladder cancer. We decided it was imperative that my bladder be surgically removed as soon as possible. There were no other options.
At 82 years old, I had very few experiences with surgery. I was semi-retired from a 40-year career designing and manufacturing Sports Promotional Vehicles for NFL and others. This was my first experience with cancer bladder surgery.
By mid-July, I was back at home in my own bed convalescing with this new thing protruding outside of my body called a stoma. It was a traumatic experience.
Thankfully, my wife Dona had 35 years of experience in the medical profession working for an Ophthalmologist as a Surgical Assistant in Miami, Florida to working as a Medical Office Manager for surgeons in Beverly Hills, California. I was in good hands while recovering from my surgery.
On the very first day, back at home from the hospital, my favorite cat Sparky, jumped on me and landed directly on my stoma! The trauma of that incident “sparked” an idea, which was the beginning of StomaDome.
The StomaDome Stoma Guard is a light, reusable and super strong stoma guard. It attaches to the outside of an ostomy bag with an adhesive Velcro. It is one of the most unique and cost-effective stoma guards on the market. Since launching the company in 2015, StomaDome has been purchased by hundreds of Ostomates.

Urostomy surgery has affected my life in many ways. I have become considerably more aware of my movements at home and in public places. I personally understand the journey. But, thanks to having urostomy surgery, I can live longer and enjoy life more.
